About Julie

Julie’s vocal style is celebrated for its radiant lyricism, expressive depth, and remarkable versatility. With a career that seamlessly blends performance, education, and leadership, she stands out as both an acclaimed vocalist and a dedicated music educator.

Julie is the founder and director of the Winnipeg Conservatory of Music, where her passion for teaching and vocal coaching has inspired generations of students. She holds a Master of Music in Voice and Opera Studies from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, along with dual undergraduate degrees – a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education – from Minot State University in North Dakota.

Her studies have also taken her abroad to prestigious programs, including the International Institute of Vocal Arts in Chiari, Italy, and the Ost-West Musik Akademie in Altenberg, Germany.

With over 20 years of experience teaching private voice and piano, Julie is also an accomplished conductor. She currently leads the WCM Pops Choir and has previously directed ensembles such as Viva L’Italia and the St. Mary’s High School Choirs.

Julie is a respected member of the Association of Manitoba Arts Festivals and is frequently invited to adjudicate competitions across the country. Her expertise has also earned her a spot as a judge for both the Western Canadian Music Awards and Canada’s JUNO Awards, where she helps recognize the nation’s top musical talent.

In addition to her work as an educator and conductor, Julie maintains a vibrant performance and recording career. Her debut album, My Loving Days, earned a nomination for a Prairie Music Award for Outstanding Classical Recording, while her follow-up, Passions: Art of Seduction received national distribution through Outside Music, solidifying her presence in Canada’s classical recording scene.

Julie has graced stages across Canada, the United States, and internationally, performing in opera, musical theatre, recitals, and concerts. Her operatic credits include appearances with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera Company, Western Plains Opera, The Little Opera Company, and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Winnipeg, showcasing her versatility and dramatic range. As a soloist, she has performed with ensembles such as The Minot Symphony, Ost-West Symphony, The Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra, and at events like the Western Canadian Music Awards and the International Peace Gardens.

She is also the founder and manager of The Yuletide Singers, a festive, costumed a cappella quartet that brings traditional carols to life throughout Manitoba each holiday season. Their performances have become a cherished part of local holiday celebrations.

(Excerpt) …Our Choir over this period has been bestowed with many blessings: the enjoyment and cheerfulness of singing together, the long-lasting friendships that have been made, the calmness and harmony that we have experienced in our weekly rehearsals and the joy and comfort our performances has brought to our audiences. Not only has the singing made us feel better, it has made us better people, and for this we are truly grateful.  (Read the full testimonial here!)
